does not work properly on OS X EI Captain
I actually like the application for the most part. It does seem to use a lot of resources when copying files to Amazon S3 - the spinning beach ball of death showed up many times. The upload was very slow as well. Forklift does a much better job in that aspect of it. I will keep using it and see what the updates bring. Overall it isn’t bad, just needs some improvements.
This is a good update, I will review it later. I like this app, firstly it is a really effective way to manage my files, because it has two windows for me to explore the files. there is no need to open two finders anymore~.
The file management functions of this app are impressive, but the cloud connectivity makes this a stellar app. I wanted an easy way to manage multiple Google Drive accounts at once without needing to install Google’s sync client (I don’t need the files on my hard drive). Commander One Pro makes it easy to add Google Drive and Dropbox accounts and easily drag and drop files back and forth. I especially like that it shows the remaining free space at the top. I tried Expandrive but it constantly caused Finder to beach ball. No hiccups so far with this program, and it’s very easy to see how much time is remaining for the transfer (something Expandrive doesn’t do). I hope they add additional cloud storage providers (like Box, Copy, Amazon Cloud Drive, etc) in the future!
Simple, professiona, convenient. This app supports FTP,SFTP,FTPS,which makes me wonder. Its a very unique tool for extracting.
It’s hard to find a good file manager these days and I’m glad i found this one. I can quickly manage all my files from one desktop with this app. It works very well on El Capitan.
I bought all file managers for OSX and still trying to find Total Commander replecement… Commander is mising: 1. Filter for left/right pane (like PathFinder has) or at least one filter for both panes (like Crax) 2. Better queue management (try copying 10GB of small files, need to have better progress and ability to start aditional small “copy” in parallel) or possibility to cancel some operation that is waiting in queue 3. additional “right sidebar” that can show all my external drives (now I have to scroll above) or it can contain all my favorites (have a look at crax) 4. ability to use CTR+T (insert) to select/deselect files 5. compare functionality (of left/right pane) would gladly do beta testing
Trying to drag and drop actually selects multiple items, cmd+delete doesnt delete files, spacebar doesnt open quicklook. I guess you can change shortcuts in settings. I am grateful that I dont have to dig into System Pereferences to change shortcuts. But still why not keep the system defaults? I was hoping to replace PathFinder with this, but it seems that wont be the case. Some power user features like sorting folders by size is not available in this app and it is frustrating when it comes to file management. Folder sizes only refer to the contained files, but not subfolders. Thats flaw. A paradigm shift is required to use this application succesfully.
I do, generally like the app to move files around my computer and peripherals on the local network. My only issue is with the FTP function. It is SLOWWWWW. Ridiculously slow if you’re involved in any level of web dev. It can take hours to upload content via Commander One Pro that takes minutes using a dedicated ftp manager or even cPanel file manager. It would be wonderfully convenient if it came evern close to this level of transmission, but it doesn’t. In every other respect, I like it a lot.
Very pleased to see this. Please continue developing ;-) . First we need alternate line shading in the browser! After that It’d be nice to maybe have a plug in architecture. Wonder what their development plan looks like?? I gave 5 stars cause even with this initial rollout, the archive features (different compress engines builtin, plus ability to view archive as a directory-without dearchiving) is better than most other mac file managers. And the design with the option of old fashioned function keys for copy/move remains more reliable than drag/drop for critical file management tasks. Plus this’ll give me directory sizes for internal or external drives instantly—unlike Pathfinder (which I use most of the time) which churns away for ever it seems.
Commander PRo is good, with a lot of promise to become much better, and join the best of the MAS crop of file managers. It is fairly faithful to ye ‘ole Norton / Midnight Commander of the days when the command prompt ruled the desktop. And it is making a weird comeback, now that other notable file managers - that used to be way superior to Commander Pro- are mysteriously falling pray of El Crapitan bugs. Eltima has no lack of resources nor talented programmers to carry this product to the top of the class. But in the stern and marginally profitable world of file utilities, Eltima may lack the nerve to build something outstanding. In any case, I recommend it. Just because it may be the last hope to see something truly awesome coming our way, and it may very well be the last chance to fight against all the El Crapitan disease. Support this developer! Promote its products! But nag Eltima to make something great out of the merely good! Fight! Fight! Fight!
The product seems to work to transfer files. However, the option shown for the target is “/“ which you might think means root. It does not, it means the directory you logged into. There is no means to see where you are, what directory you are in, on the target. I find that hard to live with. So, I had to back out my first attempt and repeat my work, to the point where I might as well have just used scp from the terminal window which would have taken less time. I found it very hard to navigate the target. This product goes way beyond the capabilities of WinSCP, and in fact, way off into network realms I wish I didn’t know about. At worst, you might clobber something you didn’t mean to. Very hard to understand the reasoning behind the design choices. This is nothing like Apple software, where the user experience is the staring po;int. This is really a developer tool, not for the mid-level user that just wants to move some files conveniently. Therefore, not recommended for home use. If you are a network engineer, more power to you. I don’t need it anymore. I will give it an extra star, for the power, but this thing needs a lot of work on the UI.
This app is perfectly fine for anyone transferring < 5 gigs of data. I have a NAS with over 2TB of data and i regularly transfer 30-50 gigs back and forth between my laptop and NAS. There is a bug in this application currently where any large transfer will eat up large segments of OSX cache (under /var/private) and result in my mac going from 70 gigs of free space to 1 gig. Closing the app freezes this cache but this is still a huge problem and renders it virtually useless for large transfers.
The developers have done a great job, and the new version 1.5 has some great additions. There is a free version of this app, but the Pro is really the only way to go because it unlocks what a file manager really should be - an all in one manager for all your local, cloud, and server needs. My favorite part, even though it may sound trivial, is that I can change and customize themes.
Firstly i was a hardcore Total Commander user, can’t live without it. And after switch to osx i’ve searched for an alternative and i was very sad that any of the available file managers lack features that is must have for me, ugly or just acts wierd. Than i find Commander Pro. Truly this is the best alternative for TC. But if you like finder features or controls this is not for you. This latest upgrade solves a lot of bugs so it’s getting better and better. However there are still need some improvements and have few bugs and wrong UX/gui solutions. Here are few: - speed: little bit slow when changing dirs. Try Files app here in the app store, that’s what i call fast! - copy/move files: if one file is selected for copy/move the filename needs to be filled in the end of path input, so you can rename the file if you want - file overwrite: for me this is the worst implementation. Why is the “keep both” the deafult? is anybody use this? imho the default is need to be cancel and need some shortcut or able to switch options with the cursors. Oh and the "apply to all" needs to be an option not a checkbox. For this the TC is the golden standard. - the built in viewer need to open any unknow format in text mode, not in hex - google drive integration crashing - draging files need some enhancements. When i like to drag file it always keeps select files, and when i like to select files it drag one of them - the calculate dir size feature need some process indicator that it is in the process. Check TC for example. I will update this review if i find more.
Unable to save the FTP connection. Tried several times. Click connect, the dialog disappears, and no connection is saved.
I have tried pretty much every filemanager inside and outside the App Store, and also spent quite some money on it. All have their strengths and weaknesses, and I never could get used to one like I got used to Altap Salamander on Windows (awesome filemanager due to high extreme attention to details to optimize every interaction and process). Commander One (Pro) is clearly the best so far: Good feature set to begin with, mostly intutive UI (except for the issue with file selection vs. drag and drop action that others pointed out). It has also seen some good improvements with 1.5. I really hope this sticks around and will be actively developed. To support this, I purchased the PRO version even though I don’t really need any of the added features. The standard version is pretty good - does not feel crippled at all, does not annoy with sales messages - much appreciated. I second every single improvement suggestion that erkage made hier in his review - these are all extremely good points (incl. the reference to the speed of files - soon to be Nimble Commander). Would also like to see Box.com supported in the connections. Hope to see some of these pretty soon, and these fixes/improvements would make it 5* for me.
